In conversation with Talking Dosa!

I am a Dosa enthusiast, just like many other South Indians. One morning, my curious mind posed an intriguing question: What if a Dosa could talk? I decided to find out, and here is the transcript of our conversation.

orite and the preferable breakfast option for most Indians. Humans call me “Batter” when I am alive and “Dosa” when I am dead.

Me: Why don’t you consider this journey from being a Batter to a Dosa as a transformational process?

Dosa: That’s your perspective and I can’t deny that. For me, this is a painful process and it kills me from within.

Me: What if you were gifted with the ability to walk?

Dosa: Well, I would be the happiest Dosa on the planet, and the moment you put me onto a hot pan, I would get up and start walking.

Me: That’s interesting, but you are born to become someone’s food, right?

Dosa: I don’t really care about that. If someone loves me so much, why do they give me so much pain by throwing me onto a hot pan?

Me: That’s how you get an identity as Dosa, right?

Dosa: That’s your assumption, and firstly, I never requested this transformation. I was very happy being a Batter in your fridge.

Me: Why didn’t you communicate this to humans?

Dosa: Well, I get the ability or power to speak up only after becoming a Dosa, and none of them are interested in talking to me prior to consuming.

Me: What’s next?

Dosa: I am waiting for someone to transform me into a human.

Me: Thank you so much, Dosa, for taking time from your busy schedule of transformations. I will put in my best efforts to communicate your message to fellow humans.

Dosa: I should thank you for putting in the effort to initiate this conversation. We really don’t have control over this journey from Batter to Dosa, but little conversations like these will give us some relief.

Reflections on the Conversation with Dosa

This conversation with Dosa opened up a different dimension for me to think, and it’s very important for us to have little conversations like these with our food. Happy food can do wonders.

Lessons Learned:

1. Learn to Speak Up for Yourself: All of us go through testing times and painful transformation processes. Often, we prefer not to speak about it and communicate our emotions. Only when we communicate or speak up for ourselves can the journey become interesting.

2. Don’t Just Walk Away from a Situation: Walking away from any testing situation is the easiest option for most of us. Instead, we get to experience transformations when we stay strong and hold on to the journey.

By embracing these lessons, we can navigate our own transformations with more resilience and insight.
